Why Have Jelly Nougat Candy?

The reason why you should make this is simply that it is so different and combines so many traditional flavors to create something totally unique.

The jelly gives it the softness and fruitiness in contrast to the crunchy and creamy nougat. Your kids will frankly go wild for this dish.

Another reason you should make this is also because of the way that it looks. This comes with brightly colored green and red jellies that look too good not to eat. This will definitely liven up your kitchen area, and you’ll see a few heads turning if you have guests around.

Making your own nougat at home is also a great way to control the portion size of your food. If you dice these up into small, manageable pieces, then you can eat your dessert in a much more controlled way. You can also divide this up into squares so that your guests can help themselves.

So now that we’ve given you a few reasons to tuck into this sweet nougat, we hope that we’ve persuaded you to keep going and to tackle the recipe. This will take you hardly any time at all, so why not give it a go?

How To Make Jelly Nougat Candy

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons of butter – this will form the body of your nougat
  • 2 bags of white chocolate chips – we would recommend that you get 225-gram bags
  • 2 bags of mini marshmallows – again, we would recommend that you go with 2 x 250-gram bags
  • 1 and a half cups of chopped red and green gumdrops

That’s it! Pretty simple huh? Why not take your kids with you to the store to help you pick out these ingredients? This is a fun way to get your kids engaged with cooking. By keeping them around during every stage of the cooking process, you are keeping their attention and also getting them excited for the fun bit… baking!

Recipe

  1. Take an 8 x 8-inch baking dish. Cover the inside with cooking parchment paper and oil it if you feel that is necessary.
  2. Cut all of your gum drops in half then set them aside on the plate.
  3. Melt your butter in with the white chocolate and the marshmallows. Do this over indirect heat, placing the ingredients in a bowl and holding them over some boiling water. Make sure that the mixture doesn’t burn in the bowl itself.
  4. Stir the mixture so that it is smooth, cooking it until it melts.
  5. Take the mixture off the heat and let it cool for around 3 minutes. You should make sure that your chocolate is safe to spoon into the tray.
  6. Take the gum drops and mix them in with your melted ingredients.
  7. Take this mixture and pour it into a pan. This mixture will be very sticky and might gum to the bottom of your pan. Spread the mixture evenly and then pat it down.
  8. Put this in the refrigerator overnight, although you can take it out after 3 hours if you are pushed for time.
  9. Cut this into pieces. We would recommend having about 60 pieces, so they are big enough to chew and you have enough for a large group of people.
  10. When you are storing these candies, make sure that you put parchment paper between them.

Some Tips and Tricks

  • When you are melting the mixture, place the butter and the chips in the bowl first, as these will melt the easiest. Make sure that you don’t burn this mixture.
  • Place a third of the ingredients in for melting. Once this has turned completely to liquid, then add in another third. Keep doing this until you have used all of the liquid.
  • Add the marshmallows in last, stirring until there is none left in the mixture. We would recommend that you count out the marshmallows before adding them.
  • The whole process of melting these ingredients shouldn’t take you longer than 10 minutes to make, although it will take you longer to freeze.

Our Final Say

We hope that our recipe for this dish has tickled your fancy and that you have something to keep the kids entertained while they are home for the holidays. This is both fun and easy to do, requiring very few ingredients and little cooking time.

We would remind you that if you’re cooking with children that they are supervised around the cooker, as this might lead to severe injuries.
